I am please to share with you this awesome news
The barrel project and developers are involved as mentors in Google Summer of Code 2016 initiative, as members of the BEAM Community. It’s a great opportunity for the students to participate to an Erlang project and participate in the development of a modern database.
The Google Summer of Code
The Google Summper of Code (GSOC) is an annual program in which google awards all students ($$$, tshirt, …) that successfully complete a project on a free and opensource project. It is also good time to increase your network and your experience.
We listed some ideas under the BEAM Community wiki. Students are free to get involved in suggested ideas, but can also propose new project ideas on their own.
Barrel (https://barrel-db.org) is a modern document-oriented database in Erlang focusing on data locality (put/match the data next to you) and P2P with an effort to maintain a compatibility with the Apache CouchDB API.
Students can contribute either in Erlang or Elixir programming languages.
How to apply?
You will need to submit a proposal on GSoC website, for the Beam Community. Students should pick their projects and submit proposals from 14th to 25th March 2016. Do not be afraid, you won’t be alone and we are here to help. You can contact us on IRC, directly on the forum.
Make sure you will be eligible to the project before starting. Details are available on the GSOC 2016 FAQ .
Looking forward to work with you!
